In my opinion, the maxi dress is probably one of the most underrated and versatile items that you can have in your wardrobe. It’s comfortable, it can be casual or chic and flatters the feminine form.
For this outfit I styled my maxi dress with a choker and fringe detail, which are currently two very popular mainstream trends.
The Maxi Dress:
If you’re like me and you prefer to wear more muted tones, a dusty rose/ powder pink like this may be the perfect way to introduce some colour into your wardrobe. Besides the colour, I love the elasticated empire waist as well as the demure but daring slits.
The more interested I am in fashion and trends the more I’m starting to pay attention to the cut and shape of a garment, the material used and assessing its longevity based on how trendy or classic a piece is before buying it. One of my inspirations in doing this has definitely been InTheFrow, which I would highly recommend you check out. She has a blog as well as a Youtube channel.

Fringe & Oxfords:
The fringe trend has filtered down from exclusively being worn at music festivals like Coachella, into the collections of influential designers and inevitably into high street shops like River Island. A biker inspired leather (or in this case pleather) jacket is one of, if not my favourite item in my wardrobe. I love how throwing it on instantly adds an edge to your outfit and in this case contrasts the feminine silhouette of the maxi dress.
A pair of Oxfords is a great investment in my books. The tailored masculine inspired shoe is a classic and can be paired with anything from some boyfriend jeans to a maxi dress. Although personally I prefer wearing my Oxfords with a garment that grazes my ankles, even though I have worn them a few times with shorts a lá Taylor Swift.
