Who is zoëjoy?
Third year BA Humanities student at the University of Pretoria, Aspiring journalist and stylist, Dance enthusiast, Dog Person, Proudly South African, Peroxide princess, free spirited 22 year old.
Why the blog?
After working briefly as a dancer and a model Zoë fell in love with the media and entertainment industry. However she felt that she had so much more to offer than the content of her Z card and that her introverted voice and ideas would never see the light of day unless she herself published it on a public platform. After being told that she was too tall to be a dancer but too short to be a model she created an online space where she could be both.
What’s posted on this blog ?
Follow Zoë’s style diary as she attempts to master situational dressing while making the lecture halls her catwalk until her long lost New York Fashion Week invitation arrives. Zoë’s main goal of sharing her outfits is to showcase South African talent, to show her readers how to translate high fashion trends into high street outfits and to help her readers so that when that all too familiar “ I have nothing to wear “moment occurs, they know they can turn to zoejoyxoxo.com for some outfit inspo.
Zoë’s favorite author, William Shakespeare, starts his play Twelfth Night with the following phrase,”If music be the food of love, play on…” On zoejoyxoxo.com the modern translation is accepted as the following: If music be the food of love, blog on!
Grab a glass of wine, sit back and have a laugh or cry as Zoë shares her thoughts on being the only single girl in her group of married friends, living in South Africa, being in her twenties and everything in between.
Has she done cool things ?
During her last year of high school Zoë had the opportunity to be a part of a local singer’s music video. It was always her dream to become a professional dancer and after shooting the music video she knew that it was what she wanted to be doing for the rest of her life. Zoë is seen here in the thumbnail and onwards from the 1:34 mark.
During the year of 2013 Zoë lasted exactly a week at University before deciding to take a gap year. In March of the same year, she secured herself a spot as one of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ cheerleaders for the annual Indian Premier League cricket tournament. Consequently she spent the next two months living in India, falling in love with airport terminals and with living in hotels.
Her favorite memory of this adventure was sharing a stage with Pitbull as he rapped through all of his hits at the opening ceremony of the 2013 IPL.
However upon returning from India both modelling and dancing jobs were scarce and those on offer almost always came at the cost of personal dignity. As a result Zoë decided to restart her studies at the beginning of 2014 and has since become a regular inhabitant of lecture halls and deserted areas of the library.
